one more thing, if one do have an authentic will with probate of getting so much tolas of gold. it is a proof of possession.
thn intht case evnthgh one does not give tht much tolas to her daughter or does not hv tht much gold left with him at the time of marriage, 
bt one can falsely make a claim to give it on the basis inheritance.
in tht case whts remedy ?

1.  20 relatives each gave Rs. 50,000/- as a cash gift to support us. (10 Lacs)
Ans : Gifts upto 50k are tax free, and also gift of any amount from relatives is tax free.
Ask her to submit the list of names of relatives with addresses. And also, to produce any gift deed, if made at that time. File these in income tax dept and ask them to verify, if these 20 relatives have declared the source of 50k in their income tax returns of that year.
If you follow up with IT dept, a notice will be sent to all 20 relatives to explain about it.

2.  In the shagun we got around 1 lacs. 
Ans: gifts received in marriage are tax free.
but if it was given before marriage, it would be taxable, as she will be still a fiancé. look at the date.

3.  My mother exchanged her old jewelry worth 15 lacs.
Ans: Ask her for the receipts of gold exchange.
File this in excise dept and ask whether that shop has declared this purchase and selling of old gold and new gold in their audit sheets/balance sheets.
Also, ask her to show the receipts of 15 lac gold purchase (for old gold which was with MIL) by her mother. when, where and how? if gifted, its details, with proofs, photos, bills, etc. If she doesn't have, it is a declared black money by them.
 
4.  Around 4 lacs withdraw from bank.
Ans: ask them to show proofs that this 4 lac was used for marriage purpose and not for something else.
and make sure that those bills are not used again against the rest 10 lacs from relatives

Put an argument to create doubt, that excluding the exchanged gold apart (also to be verified), rest 73% of the streedhan amount was from relatives, which has no track record. Also, in today's world where there is hardship in earning one's own living, it is difficult to believe 20 different people giving 50k each as gift to someone else. Thus the claims are bogus.


think before you proceed, as after doing this reconciliation will be difficult in your case.

She can claim that she was Given Taj Mahal Moon Stars Titanic Kohinoor 1000 elephants etc etc....that should be supported by evidnce.
You ask for those 20 relatives to prove that from where 50 thousand came to them. You can ask them to furnish transaction of 50k how and when they got 50k, and what is their source of income. Simply deny that all the allegations are false and read the FIR and statement of witnesses. If any of such allegation is not there in the FIR/statement and is supported by her relatives then its a concoted one and void.
30 Lakh is a good amount. Ok 10 lak was given by relatives means stridhan worth 20 lakh was given by ur FIL ...nail him down by asking the source of income and provide supporting bills and the details of transactions when and how ur inlaws paid for these articles.
U can grill them by sending the same affidavit to income tax.
No one can give cash gift worth rs 50k. That amounts to black money. All those 20 relatives can fall in trap of incometax deptt.
Was there any pavti issued by ur FIL to those relatives.
Even u can be nailed down by incometax if u donate 50k to a trust or temple (if someone complains). Any transaction or exchange of money should be supported by its source i.e. From where the money came which you donated/gifted.
By doing such huge cash transaction u r cheating the govt and income tax.
If pursuaded properly all those 20 relatives and inlaws will sweat and GAALIYA denge tumhari wife or FIL ko.
