This is good suggestion.
TO ADD:- That lady will ask that someone in a mandir referred her family to theirs so she wants to discuss this personally. But before that she must get confession from her that she posted that photo. And within talks, talk about what is written in that poster & seek clarification.
Your wife will repeat the words & this will prove that she posted or on her direction these were pasted.

IMMEDIATELY FILE DEFAMATION.
And refer NILESH OJHA Advocate (Human Rights)  Case where within ongoing 498a , the 499 & 500 were allowed against the wife.

There are no provisions in law through which engagement of advocate is compulsory. Person may file or defend any case personally without engaging advocate. You may plead case of your relative in court after securing power of attorney from your relative subject to permission of council of 32 of Advocate Act.

Try to have someone (preferably a female) call her on that number from a recorded phone about that poster. He/She should talk very tactfully and appear neutral and try to probe her to confess that she put the poster there. Worth trying this before filing police complaints.

The number given is your wife's or someone else?
That person will be liable to face defamation suit under IPC 499. 

Secondly you can also do the same. Get a poster made about ur wife, her phone no and address, One hour rate Rs 1000/- all men invited Paste these posters at paanwalas, at autostands, in buses, in toilets.
